Richmond, California – Retired California Highway Patrol (CHP) Sergeant, Lee Edward Martin, Sr., #3715, passed away from a long term illness on February 25, 2018 at age 83, at Elmwood Rehabilitation Center in Berkeley with his family by his side. He was born on June 9, 1934 in Kansas City, Kansas to Herman Lee Martin and Gretchen (Hambrick) Martin.

At age 9, the family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he attended varies schools, finally receiving his Associates Art degree in Criminal Justice from San Francisco City College. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Denver, Colorado in the medical unit. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to San Francisco and became a Toll collector on the San Francisco Bay Bridge. In 1964, he was accepted into the CHP Academy in Sacramento where after graduation, he began his career in the San Francisco CHP Area office, promoted to Sergeant into the Hayward CHP Area office and finally transferred to the Oakland Area office to finish his distinguished 27 year career.

He was an avid classic car collector and belonged to several car clubs in the area where he received numerous awards and trophies for his collection  

He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Linnie Mae Martin, two sons, retired CHP Sergeant Lee Edward Martin, Jr. and San Francisco Senior Police Officer, Lance Keith Martin, along with 10 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
